Ron Rifkin was born to Miriam and Herman Rifkin and has two siblings. He is the eldest among them. His younger brother is the former manager/producing partner of Bruce Willis. He followed the Orthodox Judaism and remained orthodox till the age of 32. He is happily married to Iva who runs the business of fashion designing since 1966. Sarah Jessica Parker is one of his closest friends. He is also the Godfather of Eve Kagan.
His association with Touchstone Television took off in 2001, when he portrayed ex-director Arvin Sloane, in Alias, with Jennifer Garner as his co-star. He also played an interesting character of Bonnie Franklin’s second boyfriend in One Day at a Time. Presently, He plays a role of second-in-command businessman, Saul Holden in Brothers & Sisters TV show. His simplicity and dedication towards his profession is clear in his every role. He puts his best efforts whether performing at stage, film or in television. He is an experienced actor with an illustrious career till now. His friendship with writer Jon Robin Baitz proved rewarding as they together worked in The Paris Letter. In 1991, he was rewarded with the Obie, Drama Desk, Lucille Lortel, and Drama-Logue awards for his performance in Baitz’s play The Substance of Fire.
He was also nominated for second Lucille Lortel and Drama Desk awards for his appreciable work in Baitz’s Three Hotels in following year. He was in the lead role in the film version of Substance in 1996 and received a Tony Award for Best Supporting Actor for the Broadway revival of Cabaret in 1998.
He also starred in the Baitz play Ten Unknowns at Boston’s Huntington Theatre and currently he is working with Baitz in his ABC drama series Brothers& Sisters. He has also adjoined with additional theatre and shows like David Hirson’s Wrong Mountain, Arthur Miller’s Broken Glass, Ivan Turgenev’s A Month in the Country, and Neil Simon’s Proposals to add value to his career as an actor.
Rifkin has appeared in many films such as Silent Running, The Big Fix, Husbands and Wives, Manhattan Murder Mystery, Wolf, L.A. Confidential, The Sunshine Boys, The Negotiator, Boiler Room, Keeping the Faith, JFK, The Majestic, Dragonfly, The Sum of All Fears, and Pulse.
This all-rounder actor had regular roles on The Rockford Files, One Day at a Time, The Trials of Rosie O’Neill, and Alias. He has also starred in numerous miniseries and made-for-television movies. He has also appeared in several shows like Sex and the City, ER, Law & Order, A Nero Wolfe Mystery, Falcon Crest, Soap, Hill Street Blues, and The Outer Limits as guest star for which he received nomination of CableACE.
Reading is also included in the list of his hobbies and he has read innumerable books which includes The Giver by Lois Lowry (1993), Sang Spell by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor (1998), and Milkweed by Jerry Spinelli (1993).
